How to stop a dogfight

Most dog fights are unpleasant, wild and short-lived. They usually last only a couple of seconds, but it is enough for dogs to cause serious injuries. It is up to the humans to stop the fights without being injured themselves, as long as you can not try to intervene in it. There are several ways to stop a dogfight . Here are some strategies that coaches recommend.

CALL YOUR DOG

Get away from the fight and try to call your dog, possibly lose interest in the other dog and follow you.

USE THE COLLAR

Try to fasten and pull strong on the dog collar . In this case you must do with the two dogs at the same time, because if you only do it with one of them, you leave it at a clear disadvantage and at the mercy of the other dog.

GRAB THEM FOR REAR FEET

This should be done between two people, each of them should grab a dog by its hind legs, lift it and walk backwards. Dogs should not be let go until after a few minutes, time in which they will surely have calmed down.

MÓJELOS:

Dogs hate getting wet, and sometimes spraying fighters with water from a hose will separate them. It does not always work, but it may be your only option with dogs that are too large to physically separate them.

PUT A BARRIER:

When fighting small dogs, pull a blanket or your coat over them. This will protect you from bites and scratches when you physically separate them.

Tips
  • It is very important that you do not punish dogs, because remember that dogs live in the present and if you punish them after a time of the fight they will not know that the punishment is for the fight.
